NON-HUMAN FRIENDS (PETS)

Perhaps a term which has used itself up.  The relationship between humans and animals  has been evolving for thousands of years, and has reached a point where we have very inimate and complex relationships with a variety of creatures.  Perhaps 'non-human friend' would be better.   Or NHF.
